Antique Huge 31” Flat Top High Brow Black Hair China Doll in Orange Dress
This exceptionally large china doll was in my husband's grandmother's collection.
She is 31” tall and her head circumference is 13-1/2”.
She has no markings but is clearly very old as she has areas where the black paint of her hair is worn down to the white porcelain (see photos).
With her chubby cheeks, all evidence points to her being a German 1860s “Flat Top/High Brow” china doll.
She gazes slightly to the right and upward with her blue eyes.
Other than a few “pepper flakes” everywhere except her left leg (see photos), her porcelain is in perfect condition.
I can find no evidence of chips, hairline cracks, crazing or repairs on any part of her body.
There is a little bit of brownish “stain” under her right arm (pictured).
Her black “boots” are painted on her legs.
She wears a pretty orange dress with little yellow flowers and black lace.
She wears a pretty cameo necklace on a black ribbon and has three layers clothes as pictured.
Her underdress has lace at the bottom as do her bloomers.
Her bloomers and her cloth body have age spots as one might expect for a doll well over 100 years old.
Her hips are so wide that her bloomers do not come off but I can see no evidence of any concerns underneath them.
Her last three homes in our family have been non-smoking; no odor.
